About Jacobs Design Homes
A Full Service Home Builder
Ben Jacobs is a “hands on” builder, operating as owner and project manager. He spent the earliest years of his career as a commercial airline pilot, and doing small construction jobs on the side. With the demands of a growing home business, and flying job, a decision had to be made. Ben left his career with the airlines and started building new homes full – time. Ben and his wife of 9 years currently reside in Neenah, Wisconsin along with their three rambunctious children.
We have been working hard since 2007 to build each new home with quality materials and superior design .When you hire Jacobs Design Homes, you will work directly with Ben during all phases of construction. Every detail is carefully considered. Let us make your dream a reality.
Our Process
From Concept to Completion
There is a lot that goes into to building your new home. However, at Jacobs Design Homes, we try to make your home building experience as easy as possible from beginning to end. The basic steps consist of three stages: the design and concept, construction, and closeout.
1. Design and Concept
The first step is selecting the plat of land you wish to build on. This could be on one of our nicely located properties, or one that you have found on your own. The next step is sitting down with Ben talking through your home design, floor plans, and some of the other exciting details of your new home (ceiling height, doorhandles, trim style, etc). This is usually achieved in one or two meetings. At that point, a contract that outlines your entire project is developed and agreed upon.
In regards to the design of the home, there are a number of ways that this can be achieved. However, typically our clients review our floor plans, design their own, or bring in another plan that they would like built or modified.
2. Construction
Simply put, this is the stage in which your home is built: the foundation is poured, the walls and roof are raised, plumbing and electric is installed, flooring is placed, and drywall is hung. As things come together, you are brought in to finalize some of the finishing touches. For example, once your kitchen cabinets are installed, you can look at them in place and decide which countertops you feel would compliment them the best. Our goal is to never overwhelm you, but to bring you the decisions that need to be made at the time they need to be made.
3. Closeout
This is what separates us from many home builders. First of all, our bids are based on lump sum pricing. That means that the bid that we give you, based on the specs you decide on, will be the price that you pay. That will give you a peace of mind as we go through and closeout your project. Next, we build houses that are ready to move in. Literally a one-stop-shop. That means that the driveway is poured and the lawn is put in. Your home is complete!
A timeline of the building of a home ranges from 3.5 to 6 months. However, our typical home (from the point that the foundation is poured) is completed in 4 to 4.5 months (dependent of the weather).
